My 2003 Chevy Malibu is idling really funny and there is a sulfur smell coming from the tailpipe, whats wrong?

So i have a 2003 chevy malibu, and recently it has been making a weird chitty chitty bang bang kinda noise when it is idling like at a stop light. Now today, i noticed that when i come to a stop at a stop light and i leave the car in drive but hold down the brake it kinda lurches forward while it is idling, kinda like its going to die on me. It does it in reverse and only a little bit in neutral, but not in park. The check engine light just came on and now there is a strong smell of sulfur coming from the tailpipe. Whats wrong?
