Help! Tell me if he likes me please!?

The beginning of Junior year we really met for the first time. I quickly fell for him and it seemed like he might like me too, but sometimes he was abrasive. So I finally just asked him if he liked me, he told me no, and that he just saw me as a friend. He also told me that he wasn't into dating. So I tried to move on. We came back from Christmas break, and he acted completely different. He was shy around me, and he blushed a lot, and he tried to get my attention all the time and jumped into all my conversations. I didn't know how to act because he had told me that he wanted to be friends.. I was confused and so I acted mainly like his friend and sometimes flirting with him, His best friend even jokingly told me that he was secretly in love with me! Everyone was talking about us and wondering when we would start dating. Then suddenly ...he asks another girl to prom and he starts dating her.After that happened he became cold again, but sometimes he would look at me again like he liked me, or he would try to get my attention. He dated her for 5 mo, into the summer, and then she broke up with him because she didn't think she would have time for him in the coming school year. Now its summer and they just recently broke up. He texts me a lot, or he tells me to text him. Today we talked for 6 hours and he even seemed sad after that because he had to leave. He laughs all the time when he talk and he seems to want to talk to me all the time. He even apologized when he didn't text me back the day before. He even tells me things that bother him in his home life and we are telling each other lots of things.What the heck does he want?!
